Earth Day Activities for Kids

Happy Earth Day !

This is such an important day which is not as talked about as all the other days and festivals that we celebrate. This is the day to gift mother earth and save it for our future generation. It is kids who need to take actions to save this beautiful environment for their future and they should show their concern right from now.

The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970  to create awareness and action towards a better environment for everyone and of which everybody needs to be a part of.  This is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. It is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated annually on April 22 by 196 countries worldwide. Earth Day Network’s mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations.

We can take little steps to be part of this movement and every child can do their bit too. Now is the time to follow  and implement these simple tips which we have heard time and again.

1. Plant more trees
2. Save electricity
3. Walk or use a bike when you can
4. Save water
5. Use less paper and other natural resources.
6. Abandon plastic
7. Live a organic life. Eat more local and seasonal.
8. Go minimalist

Finally, follow the seven R’s

1. Reuse instead of buying new every time.
   
2. Repurpose The more creative cousin of reuse, repurposing turns old junk into new, functional objects.
3. Rot compost everything organic.
4. Repair instead of replacing.
5. Return Only buy from companies with take-back programs.
6. Refill instead of buying disposable bottles and paper cups.
7. Refuse to buy overpackaged, disposable, single-use junk.

We can make a difference if we all take an oath to follow these simple principles and make this earth a better place.
